‘Buzzard Fight’ by Robert Harvey was one of Robert’s 3 sets of 5 images that won him 1st place and the Hewitt Cup in the Projected Image League competition 2023.
I spent eight hours in a hide on the Marlborough Downs watching buzzards feeding on dead pheasants. My sequence was all taken in the space of 90 seconds when an adult buzzard demanded that a juvenile give up its kill. The juvenile resisted by mantling and then fighting but was eventually knocked down by a kick from the adult.

‘Life of the Mountain Hare’
Mountain hares in the Scottish Highlands survive by camouflage, moulting from brown pelage in summer to white in winter, and speed. My sequence, taken during several visits to one valley in the Cairngorms, shows these different survival strategies.

‘Milky Way’
Appreciating and photographing the core of our Milky Way galaxy requires dark skies away from light pollution. My sequence was taken on the coasts of Cornwall and Dorset looking out to sea at some of the best viewing locations in Britain. Robert has his own website.

Robert Harvey - 1st Place

’Shades of Africa’ by Penny Clarke is one of Penny’s 3 sets of 5 images that was awarded 2nd place in the Projected Image League competition 2023.
Taking images during the middle of the day in Africa can be challenging as can getting images that are different and stand out. I rather like working in HiKey giving the images a fine art style. I also like the more minimalist feel to these images.

‘Lion Cubs at Play’
These Lion cubs were playing on the track in front of our vehicle and we were the only ones to see them. We spent a lovely time with them and got some great images before they melted into the undergrowth.

‘Images of Skye’
I think I am really a fair weather landscape photographer which I know goes against anything which produces more interesting images. I found during my time on Skye - the rain, hail and more rain quite challenging, oh and did I mention the wind as well? However, I was pleased with the images I took and funnily enough enjoyed my time on the island so maybe I am changing my mind.

Penny Clarke - 2nd Place

‘Insects’ by Tony Leach is one of Tony’s 3 sets of 5 images that was awarded 3rd place in the Projected Image League competition 2023.
Early morning starts are ideal for insect photography. Before the sun rises insects have not started to warm up, hence they stay relatively still making for much easier composition and photography.

‘Mist’

I took these compositions because I loved the recession in the mist and hills.

‘Raptors’
Images from a very enjoyable photographer’s evening at the Hawk Conservancy, Andover.
